Seekers Small Group (SSG) Q&A

1. What different roles can I play in conducting an SSG?

You can serve as a group leader, befriender, song leader, musician, games leader, logistics provider, or prayer warrior.

2. Can I use my own evangelistic resources/tools in conducting my SSG?

All SSG leaders who have attended the leader’s training are equipped to lead the five sessions based on the guidelines provided. Leaders are free to supplement the content with additional materials such as video clips, relevant stories, and pictures. If a leader feels that the way the gospel is presented does not resonate with the seekers, they may present it differently, as long as the core message of evangelism remains intact.

3. What if I am unable to find seekers to join my SSG?

SSG is based on teamwork, so you are strongly encouraged to collaborate with your team to find seekers. If, after promoting the group, your team is still unable to find seekers, you may either close the group or keep it open and continue looking for seekers. Although the church runs the SSG campaign once a year, you are free to start an SSG meeting at any time when seekers are available.

4. What if my home is not available to conduct an SSG?

You may hold the meetings at a team member’s home or at the church.

5. Can I recruit unchurched believers if I am unable to find non-believers for my SSG?

The SSG content is primarily designed for non-believers. However, if you believe the content could help unchurched believers re-establish their faith, you may include them.

6. Can I just make my home available for an SSG without participating as the leader or befriender?

Yes, you may. However, we encourage you to join the team and be an active participant.

7. Can I integrate SSG as part of my Cell Group ministry, that is, use my cell group as an SSG and invite prospects to join?

Certainly. In fact, this is what the Outreach Ministry hopes to achieve—cell groups bringing people to Christ through SSG meetings.

8. Can I conduct my SSG via Zoom?

One of the key features of SSG is building relationships. Based on experience and other evangelistic models, dining together in a home environment before the meeting helps seekers feel comfortable and more willing to open up. However, if seekers are eager to hear the gospel but cannot attend in person, conducting SSG via Zoom is a viable option.

9. What if the seekers in my SSG do not want to join the final evangelistic event or attend church?

That is fine. While we hope to bring seekers into God’s kingdom, our primary goal is to present the gospel comprehensively. We leave the rest to God.

10. Will I be reimbursed for my expenses incurred for conducting the SSG?

Yes, the Outreach Ministry will sponsor $10 per seeker per dining session, multiplied by the number of seekers. If a seeker attends all five sessions, the group leader will be reimbursed $50. Additionally, the group can spend up to $5 per seeker on small gifts or souvenirs, with a maximum of two rounds of giving.

11. What if the seekers in my SSG live far from the church?

We aim to hold SSG meetings at a location convenient for the seekers. The church is a last resort, as some seekers may feel uncomfortable attending a church. We are open to holding SSG meetings at a seeker’s home if they prefer.

12. How else can I support SSG if I am not conducting or leading one?

You can support SSG in various ways: by sharing your testimony, contributing food items, leading games or singing, or praying for the ministry.

13. What topics are covered in SSG’s five sessions?

The five topics are: The Meaning of Life, The Helplessness of Life, The Rebuilding of Life, The Return of Life, and The Beauty of Life.

14. What if the seekers in my group do not attend all the sessions?

It is possible for seekers to miss one or more sessions. Leaders should, as far as possible, recap the previous sessions before starting a new topic. This ensures that those who missed a session will at least hear the key points of the topic.

15. How many members do I need in an SSG?

An SSG should consist of at least a leader and one to two befrienders, depending on the number of seekers. For groups larger than five, it is ideal to have a song leader and someone in charge of games.

16. What is the composition of the members in each SSG?

Ideally, an SSG should include seeker(s), a group leader, a befriender, a song leader, a games leader, and a logistics leader.

17. Can I source seekers from the Sunset Service list of new visitors and outreach contacts, such as the Table Tennis Ministry?

Yes. Visitors and participants from all Interest Groups organized by the Outreach Ministry, as well as other regular meetings like Cosy Corner, are potential seekers.

18. Can the seekers choose to attend another church after they have accepted Christ?

Yes. The seekers are free to decide which church they wish to attend. However, for better follow up and spiritual companionship, we encourage the seekers to join the same church as the befriender who brought them to the Seekers Small Group Meeting.
