In verses 1-11, Eliphaz the Temanite asked if Job would be impatient if anyone were to speak. He has always taught and helped others, but now he is the one in trouble. He is the one who had his hope in God. He reminded Job that the innocent would not perish, or the upright cut off. We saw that it is the evildoers who suffer for what they did. God judges them like a lion that roars, and the wicked are afraid and would flee from Him.

In verses 12-21, as he saw what had happened to Job, he became frightened as he did not recognize him. It made him wonder whether anyone could be right or pure before their divine Maker. Can he trust God as He does not trust His servants and punishes His angels for their wrongdoings as we are so fragile? We are made of dust and could crushed easily if we are beaten to pieces to be perished forever.

In Chapter 5:1-7, He told Job to: “Call now; is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?” Our frustration and envy can cause us to be sick with worries, We see the foolish destroying himself and his family but there is no one to save them. Life itself is full of trouble,

Job’s friend tried to make sense of Job’s suffering. He said Job taught and helped those in trouble but now Job was in trouble. He wondered whether the righteous existed since God considered Job righteous. He was not sure if he could trust God. So, if God could judge His servants and angels, He could judge the mortal man made of clay.

We would say the same things and ask the same questions when we see the righteous suffer. We expect them to prosper not suffer. The Bible says those who obey God will be blessed but those who disobey Him will be punished. Why are such things happening to the righteous?

We live in a fallen world and even if you do not do evil, wicked and sinful men will still do evil whether we like it or not. We do not even have to provoke them they will do it for whatever reasons they want. It is like driving on the road. You can be the safest driver on the road, but there are always bad drivers who would run into us.

Is it God’s fault? No, it is man’s fault. The first man who disobeyed God brought sin into the world. It is not just his fault per se but once he brought sin into the world, the rest of mankind started the flow of sin into the world. God, on the other hand, started His plan to save us. He told Eve her son would crush the head of the serpent while the serpent had bitten his heel.

The first Adam’s heel was bitten when he ate the forbidden fruit. The second Adam crushed the serpent’s head after he had bitten Adam’s heel. Sin is defeated although it still exists on earth, but it will be destroyed after Christ establishes the new heaven and earth. Let us live a wise and godly life despite living in an ungodly world.

Prayer: O God, protect us from all evil temptations and sins so that we may live a godly life instead of an ungodly one. Set us free from the grasp of sin that we may live to honor and glorify your holy Name.
