The LORD spoke at Horeb with the Israelites, face to face. Everyone heard Him clearly, and yet they lived. Perhaps that would be a wonderful experience for some of us, but not for the Israelites. To them, it was a horrifying experience. They thought they would die, but they did not. However, they would not want to risk further. So, they requested Moses to act as their messenger instead. Initially,

I could not understand why they were afraid. Thus, I asked if I would respond differently. Perhaps not. I think their realisation of their own sins caused the great fear of standing before the great God, the great judge of all sinners. They probably could hardly breathe and even hear their hearts pounding while God spoke.

I don’t think any of us these days have such experience anymore. We instead took God as a pampering father or a buddy. There is no fear or respect for God, as we treat Him as only one of us. We no longer treat God with reverence and fear.

I felt the main reason for our lack of reverence for God is that we are unaware of our sinful selves. Besides, we no longer observe the Ten Commandments. Although we are not obliged to keep the Ten Commandments, it is still an essential guideline for handling our relationships with God and men. Fearing God is still crucial.

Prayer : Lord, teach me to fear and love you as I should so I may love my brothers and sisters more effectively. Thank you, Lord ! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen!
