It is Done!

Ps. Lam Yuen Foong

Passage of the day

17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30

When Jesus said, “It is finished”, he completed his role on earth. Hence, salvation is ready. Once again, a loud voice came out of the throne, “It is done!” This ends everything on earth and marks the completion of salvation.

A great earthquake like never before split the great city into three, and all the nations fell. Every island fled away, and no mountain remains. This is the final destruction that comes on earth, and nothing can withstand it.

Great hailstones fell on people, and people cursed God. Even until the final moment, men did not repent but continued to curse God. Isn’t this familiar? Every time something happens, we hear people blaming one another. “It is your fault,” they said. Sometimes, we even hear Christians asking, “Why Lord? Why?” As if it was the judgement that was at fault and not the sinners. “Why did God allow such great judgement? So what if men sinned? God of love should go easy with men!”

I was told that several people were turned away from God after reading about the ten plagues that Moses performed or the destruction of Canaan recorded in the Book of Joshua. On the surface, it seems that they are driven by compassion. The truth is, they have not understood their pride and self-righteousness.

May this passage help us see the severity of sins. Unless we repent, destruction is inevitable. Let us wake up to the urgency of preaching God’s words so that some may escape such great destruction.
