Cristiano Ronaldo is a world-famous soccer star and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. He won the Ballon d'Or five times, was named UEFA Men's Player of the Year three times, and took home the European Golden Boot four times, making him the most awarded European player. Even at the age of 39, he is still playing at a high level in professional leagues. What is the secret of Ronaldo's success?
Apart from his outstanding talent, the striker has worked very hard to improve his skills and power. Throughout his career, he has shown great professionalism on and off the pitch, spending hours every day practicing his skills. He put in a tremendous amount of effort to achieve his goals.
This professionalism reflects the lesson we learned from 2 Chronicles 7. After Solomon's successful construction of the temple and palace, we see that God was pleased with his dedication and blessed his kingdom. At this time, King Solomon seemed to be able to unload his burden, retire, and enjoy his "old age", but God issued a warning. God reminded Solomon that serving God is not just about accomplishing a ministry alone, but a lifelong commitment.
Indeed, our devotion to God comes from our continual turning to him and seeking his will. As we reflect on our own lives, we realize that like Ronaldo's diligent soccer practice, many things, such as marriage, parenting, relationships and ministry, require lifelong care and attention. How much more, then, does our relationship with God require daily dedication and commitment?
Our spiritual growth comes from our daily choice to seek God, our daily Bible reading and prayer. 2 Chronicles 7 tells us that God is not only concerned about the peak moments in our life of faith, but he is also concerned about the details of our daily lives. We can be assured of his presence and guidance as we do our best to fulfil the ministry God has entrusted to us. He will also lead and support us in accomplishing his eternal will.
Prayer : Dear Father, thank you for caring about our daily devotion. Please help us stay humble and faithful in our faith journey. Help us to seek your will and do your work each day. In the name of the Jesus, we pray, Amen.
