After Haman’s plot was exposed, his end was both a just judgment for evil and a miraculous opportunity for the survival of the Jews. His power and property were transferred to the hands of Esther and Mordecai. This sudden change clearly demonstrated the sovereignty of God, who turned the plans of the wicked into an opportunity for salvation. However, although Haman was executed, the king’s previous order for the extermination of the Jews remained in effect. According to Persian law, the king’s decree could not be revoked, so the Jews still faced disaster.

Faced with this dilemma, Esther once again pleaded with the king to seek a way out for her people. The king understood the seriousness of the problem but was powerless to retract his previous order. Therefore, he authorized Esther and Mordecai to draft a new decree. The new decree allowed the Jews to defend themselves and gave them the right to take and destroy the property of their enemies. It was written in multiple languages and sealed with the king's ring to ensure that it could be quickly transmitted to every corner of the Persian Empire. This action showed the wisdom and determination of Esther and Mordecai, as well as God's wonderful arrangement.

Verse 14 reads: So the couriers, mounted on their swift horses that were used in the king's service, rode out hurriedly, urged by the king's command. And the decree was issued in Susa the citadel. This shows the urgency and importance of the matter. The swift horses in the original text refer to the strong war horses that were prepared for the king's most critical missions. At the king's command, they travelled rapidly. Indeed, this was a decree that concerned life and death and had to be conveyed with great urgency.

Think about it, just as the Persian empire’s courier worked hard to quickly deliver life-and-death messages, we are called to spread the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ to the entire world. Matthew 28:19-20 clearly tells us, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” This is not a suggestion, but a command from Jesus.

So, what is our attitude? Are we like the couriers, fully committed to responding to God's commission and urgently preaching the gospel to people? Or are we hesitant, dragging, or even indifferent?

Is God urging you to preach the gospel today as well? Let's not hesitate, like the king’s couriers, let us urgently deliver the message of salvation with passion and obedience and deliver the message of salvation to the world!

Prayer : Dear Father, help us to share your gospel urgently and boldly. Take away our fear and doubt and make us ready to obey your commandment. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
