Passage of the day

The passage asked the Israelites to celebrate the Passover a second time and forever, annually. What does that mean? God is telling them He has saved them once and will continue His promise to save us forever. This is similar to the Lord’s Supper that we eat regularly. It is not just a reminder of the past but a promise of the future. He shall complete His promise to save us.

Imagine the gratitude of the people when they hear that. Not so long ago, they just broke their promise to God by worshipping the golden calf. They sinned against God and knew that God would be very sad and angry. Yet God forgave them and wanted them to keep the celebration forever.

However, the instruction came as a surprise and not everyone was prepared. Some Israelites were ceremony unclean because they had touched a dead body, but they did not want to miss the important celebration. God did not leave them out and allowed them to celebrate a month later. That was the grace of God. Even when we did not deserve it, He made it possible for all of us.

Then the passage continued by saying how God would lead them through the cloud. It is like telling them that He would not only save them in the future, He would continue to be with them and protect them. Yes, those were the message to the Israelites, and they are also the message for all of us who read His words and followed His instruction. God shall continue to be with us and lead us to eternity.

Thank you, Lord. Your love surpasses all our understanding. It is your grace that saves us. Teach us to live according to your will. Amen!
