In verses 1-6, Moses fled from Egypt to Horeb (meaning desert or desolation). God appeared to him in a burning bush. The uniqueness of the burning bush was it did not burn up and God called to Moses through it. Moses replied, “Here I am.” God warned him not to come near, but to take off his sandals as he was standing on holy ground. He identified himself as God, but Moses was afraid to look at Him. In verses 7-10, God told Moses to lead His people out of Egypt because He has heard their cries. He was going to send him back to lead His people into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land occupied by the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. In verses 11-15, Moses said no one would listen to him as he was a nobody. God assured him that He will be with him and gave him a sign, “And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” But Moses was not satisfied, he asked God how he should reply the Jews if they asked who this God who sent him. God told him to tell them, “I AM WHO I AM . . . ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God told Moses to gather the elders of Israel and tell them “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” appeared to him as He had heard their cries. As He has promised their ancestors, He will bring them to “the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.” God assured Moses the elders will listen to him, and they were to tell Pharaoh, “Let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God.” God also said Pharaoh would not let them go unless He intervened with His divine power to strike the Egyptians, but they will also not go empty-handed. When God calls us to serve Him, He will make sure we will succeed like His promise to Moses. God called Moses because He heard the cries of His people suffering in Egypt. God has also heard the cries of His people in the church as some of our younger generations are leaving the church. We must answer the call to lead them back. At our 85th Anniversary, we said we will build the church for the future generation. We cannot do this alone, we need everyone in the three services, all young and old, to participate in doing this together as the body of Christ because if one part is hurting, the whole body is also hurting. My prayer Lord is, “What are you asking me to do? O Lord, I will act on it too!”
