Ordination

Leviticus 8:10-36 describes the primary procedure in the Ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests. It consists of sacrificing three animals and a week of segregation.
Aaron and his sons must be cleansed of all sins before they may ordain. For the cleansing, a bull was sacrificed. Aaron and his sons must first be washed clean of all their sins and come before God spotless. Then they may offer a ram of consecration, thanking God for selecting them as His servants. Finally, they offered another ram for the ordination. This time the blood of the ram is to be applied to the right ear lobe, right thumb and right big toe of the priests. I read this as dedicating the ear to listen to God’s words, the hand to act in God’s righteousness and the feet to walk in the light of God. Then the priests are to present a wave offering and eat the boiled flesh as their acceptance of the charge. Lastly, they must remain in the tent for seven days to be segregated from the world matters.
Although we do not have to do any of these rituals when we follow Jesus, it does not mean we can assume our priesthood duties lightly. Let us be conscious that we are cleansed through the precious blood of our Lord, and we ought to come before the Lord with thanksgiving. We are to dedicate our ears, hands and feet to our Lord. Be a hearer of His Words, the executor of His teaching and a peacemaker of this land. We have to be the salt and light of this world.
May our Lord greatly strengthen every one of you in Him.
