A legacy that honours God

The book of Esther ends with a brief but powerful reminder of how God used Mordecai for the good of His people. Unlike Haman, who sought power for personal gain, Mordecai used his position as second to King Ahasuerus to serve with justice and wisdom.
Mordecai’s rise in position did not change his heart. He remained committed to the well-being of the Jewish people and governed with integrity. Haman had used his authority to oppress, but Mordecai used his power to uplift. This reminds us that leadership is not about self-promotion but about serving others. Whether we hold formal leadership roles or not, all of us influence those around us in big or small ways. Like Mordecai, we should use our influence to bring about God’s justice, God’s peace, and to protect.
Mordecai’s deeds were recorded in the official chronicles of the Persian Empire, showing that his impact was lasting. He did not seek recognition, but his faithfulness to God made a difference. Even in today’s times, many people strive for wealth, status, or fame, but what truly matters is how we live for God’s purposes, and how we remain faithful. Will we be willing to leave a legacy that is built on faithfulness, service, and righteousness?
Though God’s name is never mentioned in the book of Esther, His presence is evident throughout the book. He orchestrated events to protect His people and raised up Mordecai and Esther at the right time. We may not always see God’s hand at work, but we can trust that He is in control. Like Mordecai, we are called to be faithful wherever God places us, knowing He is working through us for His greater plan.
Mordecai’s example challenges us to reflect on how we use our influence where we are placed. Regardless of our sphere of influence, we must do so with humility, to actively care and love, and to trust that God is always at work, even when we do not see it.
The book of Esther is concluded with Mordecai’s story, a story that reminds us that faithfulness leads to lasting impact. May we too seek to leave a legacy that honours God.
Prayer: Dear Father, help me to serve with humility, to seek the good of others, to love others around me, and to trust in Your plan. May my life reflect Your love and leave a legacy that honours You. In Jesus Christ most precious name I pray, Amen.
