The story of Nehemiah tells us that if we serve God faithfully, He will use us for a greater purpose in the future. Nehemiah served King Artaxerxes faithfully and earned the king's trust. As a result, he was entrusted with the important task of rebuilding Jerusalem.

Being faithful today prepares us for tomorrow

It is clear that Nehemiah was respected and valued by the king because of the loyalty and dependability he demonstrated in his daily ministry. As a result, when he expressed his concerns and burdens about Jerusalem to the king, the king was happy to support him (v. 2, v. 6). This reminds us that if we are faithful to serve the Lord in our church, home, or workplace, God will open doors of new opportunities for us in His time. Where are you faithfully serving the Lord today?

God uses our efforts for His bigger plans

Nehemiah's faithfulness was no accident, but part of God's plan. God helped him win the trust of the palace so that he could lead the Israelites in rebuilding the Holy City. In the same way, God uses our experiences and the work we are doing now to prepare us to fulfil His will. Can you see how God is preparing you for His mission?

Pray and trust God as you step forward

Although Nehemiah had a good relationship with the king, he did not take it for granted. He prayed to God before making his request (v. 4). Nehemiah ultimately trusted God, not man. When new opportunities come your way, do you turn to God in prayer and trust Him to lead you?

Prayer : Dear God, Thank You for giving me opportunities to serve You. Help me to be faithful in the work. Teach me to trust You and pray for Your help in every step. Use my efforts for Your plans and glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
