Following the restoration of the sacrifices and worship celebrations that God ordained, David led the Jews in a psalm of thanksgiving for God’s mighty and faithful works. Like many psalms, this song of praise and thanksgiving began with a call to praise, almost in the form of a commandment. However, there was so much excitement, praise, thanksgiving that it was also an exhortation and an encouragement to God’s people to come together, and to join in the praises to their God.

David praised God for His faithfulness, and lists a remarkable number of ways one can praise and glorify God. One could speak directly to God (give thanks, call upon, sing to him, seek the Lord), speak to others about God’s greatness (make know His deeds among the peoples, tell of all His wondrous works), or have personal reminders (remember the wondrous works). Surely, there are more ways than one to praise His name!

Not only so, in his song of thanksgiving, David brough the community of faith to (1) remember God’s covenant, highlighting God as the covenant maker and keeper; (2) remember God as Creator and sovereign over all the nations; (3) praise the goodness and mercy of the God of salvation.

Would you go through today with thanksgiving and praise? Look out of your window and appreciate God’s creation, giving thanks for all that He has provided. Think through the things that had happened in the past week and remember the faithfulness of our Lord, and His protection over you. Come before God and tell Him that you are willing to submit to Him, to trust Him, to obey Him, and to be faithful to Him. Choose a song of praise and sing it to our Lord today. Share that song of praise to your community of faith and worship God together.

Indeed, God is worthy of all our praises. He is our good good God who watches over us, who protects us, and who sees us through all things. Praise Him! Hallelujah, praise our God!

Prayer : Dear God, thank you for Your goodness and faithfulness, thank you for all that You have done in me and through me, may Your glory be made known through the nations, may all nations call upon Your name and praise Your name! In Jesus Christ’s most precious name, Amen!
